The Kensho Akatsuki is an improved model of the previous Kei and Sei series. By removing the natural whetstone powder used in previous models and using only high-purity domestic abrasives, this whetstone achieves even greater sharpness. Made with domestic high-purity abrasives fired at low temperatures, this whetstone provides a smooth sharpening feel and creates an extremely sharp and even edge with minimal scratches. Its ability to perform the work expected of a man-made whetstone makes it suitable for both  finishing and use before using a natural whetstone. Due to its cushioning properties, it can be used to sharpen various types of steel and base metals. For knives, after flattening the surface, sharpening directly, sharpening with or without mud, or while running water over the whetstone will show the differences between each method.

Ideal for creating finer edges and and sharpening the back of the blade (Uraoshi). For even finer edge sharpening, after flattening the surface, remove any fine scratches on the whetstone with another finishing stone before sharpening.

This series (Kensho) of whetstone is recommended for someone who cares about details of sharpening, precision of sharpening, and superior sharpness. It is also good for migrating from man-made stone to natural stone. Kensho is an artificial whetstone created through a collaboration between our sharpener and a natural whetstone manufacturer, after more than a year of trial and error, incorporating whetstone research and feedback from the field.
It's focused on considering the role that each grit of whetstone should play and ensuring that it performs that role appropriately. Furthermore, the Kensho series is designed to use the whetstones in order from coarser to finer will produce the best sharpness.
